Where It All Began…

Bothwell Bros. were hired to lay the pipeline in the area North of Highway #9 and Henusett Construction was hired to lay the pipeline in the area South of Highway #9.
As can be expected on a project of this size and magnitude, problems began to develop and Mr. Eugene Kush became involved providing the legal advice needed. Engineering costs and time became questionable, contractors were plowing in shallow pipe and extra billing, and the quality of the pipe was questionable.
In 1975, the Co-op terminated Omega Techno services and became involved in a lawsuit with both Omega Techno and Henusett Construction, which lasted several years.
The Co-op had to re-plow the pipe in the South area, where the shallow pipe was found which along with the lawsuit added tremendous cost financially and in public relations to the Co-op. At the same time, 3,306 pipe resin were found to be inferior and areas where this pipe was in the ground had to be re-plowed. On top of all of this, the world was also beginning to feel the effects of the first energy crisis resulting in an increase in the gas price.
CU Engineering and Skocdopole Construction were hired to do the re-plowing and finish the construction of the remaining pipeline. By the end of 1977, the pipeline had been Installed to all those members who had signed up for the natural gas service and the Co-op was using Gas Alberta’s billing system to bill the 454 customers who were on the stream.
